SAM_0315Thank you to everyone who came along to the ceilidh in Gilnockie Hall last night, and to all those who contributed in one way or another. Especial thanks go to Beckie Davies, the driving force of the event, and also to all the other members of the Youth Group who sold tickets, set up, cleared up, brought friends and family, and danced! Thanks also go to everyone who contributed to the raffle, we had some lovely prizes.

The evening was a great success, over 80 people attended ranging in age from 8 to 80! and we raised over £800 towards the Malawi Expedition.  The Border Reiver Ceilidh Band played from 8pm until midnight, with a short break for supper at about 10pm.

Yesterday, Sunday 12th May 2013, the service was led by our new Interim Moderator, Andrew Morton. I diligently took notes to summarize the sermon, and today I found that Andrew very kindly has made the whole service available on his website. So for anyone who would like to re-read his message, or for anyone who was unable to attend, I have made it available Word In Chains

Reverend Ian Lloyd and his wife Jane visited Canonbie Church this weekend and led us in worship on Sunday morning. Reverend Lloyd was appointed as the Moderator of the United Free Church of Scotland last year and has served his congregation in Torry, Aberdeen, for the last 23 years.

He preached from Hebrews chapter 1, explaining that the Hebrews were facing similar pressures to the ones we face today. We were urged, as they were, to fix our thoughts on Jesus. He went on to expound with 8 points, which were (1) Jesus is God’s full, perfect and final word, (2) Jesus is God’s son, (3) Jesus is God’s appointed heir, (4) Jesus is God’s creative agent, (5) Jesus is God’s glory, (6) Jesus is God’s perfect revelation, (7)  Jesus is God’s sustainer, and (8) Jesus is God’s one and only perfect sacrifice. He concluded with the thought that “Hebrews makes us lift up our eyes. Whatever lies before us, we are certainly not to be discouraged. Why? Will events not harass us? They may well do. We face great troubles and disappointments, but says the Hebrew writer – Behold your God. Behold your Saviour, and take heart.”

The service was followed by a bring and share soup lunch.

cool clubCool Club is on this Friday, 26th April 2013, from 6pm to 7.30pm for all primary school children.

Come along to Canonbie Church for fun, games, songs and crafts.

cream teaThank you to everyone who supported our cream teas this afternoon.

In spite of the terrible weather, 14 walkers from the Annan walking group braved the elements for a 6 mile walk from Canonbie, via Rowanburn and the old railway line, down to the meeting of the waters and back along to Canonbie. They then made their way to the Church for a cream tea and a wee blether.

In total over 40 people came along to enjoy the fayre, and over £200 was raised towards the Malawi Expedition fund.

“I believe in Christianity as I believe that the sun has risen: not only because I see it, but because by it I see everything else.”
