Easter Sunday

The First Day was the title of the sermon delivered this morning by Andrew Morton to the congregation at Canonbie United Parish Church.

We were challenged to think about our attitude to the Sabbath and new beginnings. Click on the link above to read the sermon for yourself, and feel free to leave a comment too!!

The last soup kitchen of the winter was held today in Canonbie Village Hall. It was very well attended and the soups and puddings were delicious, as usual.

The Youth Group had a baking table with some lovely cakes for sale, with some Easter themed cakes amongst others.

After the Rotary Walk

After the Rotary Walk

Members of the Church took part in the Annual Rotary Umbrella Walk on Saturday 23rd March 2013. It was a five mile circular route starting at the Primary School and heading out of  Canonbie towards Rowanburn, down to Rowanburnfoot,  along the Liddel to the meeting of the waters and then along the Esk, and back to the Church for soup and cakes. It was cold and windy, there was snow on the ground, but great fun!

The soup lunch raised £115 towards the Malawi Expedition.

Thank you to everyone who walked, to those who baked, to those who made soup, and to the folk who manned the Church.

Mothering Sunday

Our service this morning was led by Andrew Morton, concentrating on the message of forgiveness and acceptance. Our readings were taken from 2 Corinthians 5 verses 16 to 21, and Luke 15 verses 11 to 32. There is nothing we can do that will stop God from loving us, no sin is too great to be forgiven if we come to God and ask Him. The blackest of hearts can be washed clean, and although a leopard cannot change it’s spots, we are not leopards and God can change all of us. Like the prodigal son, God is waiting for all of us to return to Him
