Reverend Ian Lloyd and his wife Jane visited Canonbie Church this weekend and led us in worship on Sunday morning. Reverend Lloyd was appointed as the Moderator of the United Free Church of Scotland last year and has served his congregation in Torry, Aberdeen, for the last 23 years.
He preached from Hebrews chapter 1, explaining that the Hebrews were facing similar pressures to the ones we face today. We were urged, as they were, to fix our thoughts on Jesus. He went on to expound with 8 points, which were (1) Jesus is God’s full, perfect and final word, (2) Jesus is God’s son, (3) Jesus is God’s appointed heir, (4) Jesus is God’s creative agent, (5) Jesus is God’s glory, (6) Jesus is God’s perfect revelation, (7) Jesus is God’s sustainer, and (8) Jesus is God’s one and only perfect sacrifice. He concluded with the thought that “Hebrews makes us lift up our eyes. Whatever lies before us, we are certainly not to be discouraged. Why? Will events not harass us? They may well do. We face great troubles and disappointments, but says the Hebrew writer – Behold your God. Behold your Saviour, and take heart.”
The service was followed by a bring and share soup lunch.
