We have now finished the series of studies based on Philip Yancy’s book “Prayer, does it make a difference?” and will be taking a short break for Easter, meeting next on 28th April at Mozie Law.

The next study will be based on the book by John Ortberg  “If you want to walk on water, you’ve got to get out of the boat” so come along and join us, all are welcome!

The Annual Rotary Umbrella Walk – Canonbie section – started this morning at Canonbie Church at 10am

There were about 30 walkers

Here are some of the Sunday School children with Mary selling the cakes at the last  Soup Kitchen of the season.

The Youth Group and Sunday School children spent yesterday evening baking, (see Bake Off!) and this morning the baking was available before the start of the Rotary Umbrella walk, and afterwards in the Village Hall. The children did a fantastic job and the cakes were amazing. The fantastic amount of £112.10 was raised which will go to Mission Aviation Fellowship.

This evening’s Bake Off! Take Off! went really well.  We had our very own Mary Berry (Hazel Murray) helping the Sunday School children in their session from 4-6pm, and then Paul Hollywood (Gordon Sandford) who gave a demonstration on how to make tablet, then hints and tips to the Youth Group members as they did their baking. He also judged the end results. First was Emily Foster with her beautiful yellow and green iced daisy cake, and second Hannah Lane with her empire biscuits.

Everyone had great fun, there will be lots of lovely baking for sale tomorrow at the soup kitchen in the village hall so come along and see (and buy) what the youngsters have made.

Canonbie United Parish Church

The Monday evening Bible Study / Fellowship group have now finished looking at 1 Corinthians, and next Monday, 24th February 2014,  will be looking at prayer, using a video and booklets.

UPDATE 24TH MARCH

We are now on the last study in the series looking at prayer, and it has been very interesting and helpful, challenging us to look at different ways to pray, what to do if our prayers are not answered, what we should be praying for, and just spending time with God, amongst other things.

Come along on Monday 31st March and have an input into what we will study next!

The Reverend William (Bill) Jackson preached on Sunday 9th March as sole nominee for the vacant charge of Liddesdale Church linked with Canonbie United Parish Church.

The congregations of both Churches voted, with the outcome that Bill has been called to be the minister of these linked Churches.

So watch this space for more news on when we can expect his induction!

No Turning Back was the title of yesterday’s sermon given by Andrew Morton at Canonbie Church.

The children’s address, I thought, had a good message,and  not just for the children, but for all of us as we walk our Christian lives. Andrew asked three little girls if they would go and move the communion table for him. As you would expect, it was too heavy for them, but with a few hints from Andrew about asking for help and them recruiting Daan and Anthony, the table was moved to Andrew’s satisfaction. Tasks may appear too hard for us on our own, but we can always ask for help.
