Abaana Choir

The Abaana Choir returned to Canonbie Church this morning to worship with us. They sang a couple of songs as part of the order of service, and when the final Hymn was ‘We are marching’ they sang, marched and danced with spontaneous exuberance.

What a joyous service.

Thank you to all that made it possible especially Rev Dave Whiteman our Interim Moderator who gave both the Sermon and Children’s address with thought provoking reflection on Thomas.

Last Sunday we welcomed the Moderator of the United Free Church to Canonbie Church.

He spoke about the ideal that we should be aspiring to – that is to be Christ-like, rather than trying to meet standards set by others.

It’s three weeks until the children’s choir from Uganda visit us here in Canonbie.

Have a look at this YouTube video of them!

The @Abaana New Life Choir is an amazing group of children from Uganda, who light up the stage through song and dance. Come and hear their stories and join us as we worship with them. They will be performing in Canonbie Church on Saturday 27th April at 7pm, and will be spending a few days with members of the congregation.

Everyone is welcome to come along and hear them – entry is free and there will be the opportunity to make a donation.

Trip to Malawi

It is almost six years since Canonbie Youth Group visited Ekwendeni, and in a few weeks time Ruth Foster and Donna Hislop, our Presbytery Youth Worker, will be leading another group of young people to Malawi, to see the work that the Church of Scotland are doing in Mzuzu with our mission partner Linus Malu, and at the hospital and health centre in Ekwendeni.
To make the most of their luggage allowance, Ruth and Donna are collecting some items to take with them as gifts for the people they meet. If anyone has any of the following they would like to donate, there will be a box in Canonbie Church labelled ‘Malawi’;

ladies (light not woolly) scarves
knitted baby goods
first aid supplies
notebooks and pens/pencils
Scottish gifts
(this list is not definitive – anything similar to what would be included in the Christmas shoe boxes would be great)

Thank you!
